Conception Chart: Calculate When Baby Is Due..
When you have your ultrasound scan you will be given a due date,
until
then you can use the conception chart below to calculate the date when baby is due.
The conception chart uses a formula devised by a Dr. Naegele around 150 years ago! He calculated that the average length of pregnancy is 266 days from conception, that the average woman had cycles of 28 days and that she ovulated on day 14 of her cycle. However, we're not all average and you can make some adjustments if necessary.
Neither does the formula take account of differences in race and whether this is your first pregnancy. First pregnancies take on average 5-7 days longer, and Caucasian woman have a longer pregnancy than African/Asian woman. So, if you're a white Caucasian woman having your first baby, you can probably add a total of 10-14 days to the due date produced by the table, and a week if this is your second or subsequent child. Afican/Asian women should probably expect their babies a few days earlier than the date produced by Dr. Naegele's conception chart.
Please note: when entering the date, make sure you use the correct format (MM/DD/YYYY).
See below for some notes on possible adjustments you should make to the date.
